Hailing from Whiteville, NC, Tyrell was a standout at Whiteville High School, earning Player of the Year honors while averaging nearly a triple-double. He went on to star at UNC Pembroke, where he was a multi-year All-Conference selection and set the program’s NCAA Division II single-game scoring record with 41 points. After college, he played professionally overseas with the Svendborg Rabbits in Denmark. Today, he brings his high-level experience, passion for the game, and dedication to mentoring young athletes at YBDL.

A Whiteville, NC native, Shannon McCallum began her basketball career at Whiteville High before transferring to The Patterson School, where she averaged 25 points and 6 rebounds her senior year. She went on to star at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning multiple All–Atlantic 10 honors, 2009 A-10 Sixth Player of the Year, and A-10 All-Tournament recognition. Shannon finished her collegiate career with 1,525 points—4th in program history—while also joining an elite group of 49ers with 1,400+ points, 600+ rebounds, 300+ assists, 200+ steals, and 75+ blocks. Known for her versatility, leadership, and sharpshooting, she now brings her passion for the game and wealth of experience to mentoring young players at YBDL.

A standout from Hallsboro, NC,  Paige Powell was a four-year letter winner at East Columbus High School. As a senior, she averaged a triple-double and set the school record for rebounds in a single game. At UNCW, Powell became known for her strong rebounding, defensive presence, and consistent effort, appearing in nearly every game across her three seasons. She posted multiple double-doubles, achieved career-high scoring performances, and ranked among the Colonial Athletic Association’s leaders in offensive rebounds. . Her work ethic, love for the game, and record-setting performance inspire the next generation of players at YBDL.
